Software Engineer
The interview journey started with a positive initial phone screen with the recruiter, Cherlynne, who really set a good tone by explaining the company's mission and objectives clearly. Following that, there were two live programming technical interviews via Hangouts with the lead engineer. This engineer was really engaging and helpful, open to questions, and seemed genuinely invested in my success if I had the necessary skills. The questions felt comparable in difficulty to those at other tech companies, focusing on practical knowledge rather than tricky or obscure coding challenges. Then came the on-site portion, which consisted of five interviews spread over four hours, each lasting between 30 to 60 minutes. Two of these were technical interviews, again posing fair questions that assessed both coding ability and problem-solving skills without being overly difficult. The remaining interviews were behavioral, designed to gauge how I would fit in with the existing team. They were very accommodating with breaks, and everyone I met was exceptionally nice, creating a really positive atmosphere. It was quite remarkable how many genuinely happy and engaged people were working there, a stark contrast to some other Bay Area tech companies where interviewers sometimes appear burned out. This positive environment, where people seemed to truly enjoy their work, was a key factor in my decision to accept the offer without hesitation.
- Can you discuss your computer science fundamentals?
- Do you have the working knowledge needed for this role?
- How would you approach coding challenges related to your role?
Software Engineer
I applied online and a recruiter reached out to schedule an initial background phone screen. It seemed like we were a good fit, so they set up a 1:1 technical coding interview via CoderPad and Google Hangout with an engineer. While the recruiter was great, the engineer was not. After explaining the problem and I asked some questions, he seemed disengaged and started working on something else. He had Slack notifications pinging and was typing furiously for the whole hour. It was very distracting and unprofessional to have that going on while I was trying to solve the problem. I get that I'm supposed to solve it quickly and alone, but if the interviewer can't be present, they should reschedule or use HackerRank.
- Can you explain recursion and dynamic programming?
Software Engineer
It was a really nice experience. First, I had a chat with the recruiter about my background, what I'm looking for, and the company's vibe and tech stack. Then, I had a video call with an engineer to get to know each other, and I had to solve a coding problem. After that, I was invited to come in person. During the onsite, I met with several people and we mostly talked about design stuff and did some coding. Finally, the recruiter called me to let me know their decision. I'd say apply directly if you're interested. They have a cool product, great people, and the process was fast. The recruiting team is very responsive. Everyone was friendly and kind throughout. Thanks to Trueaccord for having me, and I wish them the best.
- It would be unfair to share the exact questions, but I believe they were appropriate for senior engineers. My only suggestion for the future is that if custom questions involving pre-defined interfaces are used, a larger screen would be beneficial. Timed interviews with pressure, unfamiliar code, and a small screen can be challenging.
