Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Trexquant Investment.
Researcher
It was a great interview. They asked me some basic machine learning questions, a few coding challenge questions, and then we talked about my projects. Overall, it was a good experience. The interviewer also asked about my hobbies and interests, showing they were interested in more than just my technical skills.
- What was your approach to the assignment's solution?
- How did you approach the solution for the assignment?
Researcher
The interview process started with resume shortlisting. Then there was a Hangman assignment. After that, an HR round where I was given a medium-level LeetCode question. The weird part was that the HR person, who didn't seem to know coding, was conducting the technical interview. She shared a LeetCode link and just watched, not helping or showing interest in my thought process, only caring if all test cases passed. It felt odd because if they wanted a LeetCode round, they should have done that first before the assignment, especially after I invested time in it. They didn't even ask about the assignment. The fourth round, which I didn't get to, was supposedly with the CEO to discuss the Hangman assignment and Alpha.
- Discussion on the Hangman assignment
- A medium difficulty LeetCode problem involving arrays
Data Researcher
First phone interviews. It would focus on the resume staff and some machine learning basic knowledge. Second would be a hangman simulation. Write codes to simulate the hangman game. Final round is onsite interview. It would ask you to write codes simulating Monty Hall problem and some matrix manipulation, also some text handling problems. Some of the interviewers are quite arrogant. And some of the interviewers are not really understanding what they're asking.
- Monty Hall problem
- Hangman game simulation
