Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Trek Bicycle.
Store Manager
It was a long process with several interviews. They wanted to know about my experience, how I'd deal with challenging customer interactions, how I'd manage problematic staff, and my grasp of key business metrics. Having prior bike technical experience was a bonus, but not a must-have.
- What would be your approach if a customer is unhappy with the cost of a bike repair they received?
Store Manager
The interviews were set up with the Talent Acquisition Manager first. He asked me general questions about my background and how it made me qualified for this role. Then, the District Manager, Regional Manager, and HR all talked to me separately over Teams.
- What sparked your interest in this role?
- Can you describe your leadership philosophy?
Store Manager
I spoke with HR, but they didn't seem to understand the cycling community or how bike shops operate. Trek might think they can just buy local shops and keep the staff, but they're mistaken. They're hiring inexperienced, clueless people who will damage the cycling industry. HR should focus on what a candidate can contribute rather than just if they are humble. Humility doesn't build businesses; it diminishes workers' self-esteem.
- What's your experience with riding bikes?
