Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at TransMarket Group.
Trader
This was a bad interview experience overall. The whole process dragged on for more than 2 months. It included 2 phone calls and 1 character interview. HR was super slow to reply to emails, sometimes not even responding. The technical part was surprisingly easy, just probability and mental math questions, which I answered quickly. The 1-hour character interview, however, got really personal. It felt like they weren't looking for someone who could do the job, but rather someone who fit a very specific, exclusive culture, race, or social group. It was an eye-opening experience, even after interviewing with many trading firms. I was ultimately rejected after the character interview.
- Could you tell me what your parents' occupations are?
- What is your girlfriend's profession?
- What led to your arrival in this country?
Trader
The first part was a phone call with a current trader, lasting about 15-30 mins. They started with a quick intro about yourself, then got into the technical stuff.
- Could you solve a general geometric sequence problem?

The interview starts with a phone screening. Initially, they'll go over your resume. Following that, there are some questions about your personality, such as who your role model is, how you decide what's right and wrong, and what philosophy guides your life. After these initial questions, the interview becomes more challenging. The recruiter will ask you financial questions that begin quite difficult and then escalate in complexity. The firm expects a deep understanding of bonds, discount rates, and similar topics. A strong background in math and finance is essential, perhaps more than typically expected for an entry-level role.
