Senior Design Engineer
I applied online and heard back from a Talent Acquisition Coordinator (TAC) about three weeks later for a phone screen. Even though a different HR person was involved in the interview, the TAC was nice and recommended me for an engineering phone panel with three engineers after the hour-long screen. The panel interview that same week was pretty chaotic; one engineer's English was hard to follow. I found out I passed and was scheduled for an onsite panel plus a business case analysis and presentation the following week. The TAC said I'd get a link for an online application and a Hogan personality test beforehand, but they never arrived. The TAC seemed really swamped, so I figured that might be why. I had to chase her for an interview agenda the day before. When I got there, the receptionist was great, but the building and the conference room were way too fancy, and the table was so huge you had to shout to be heard. My first meeting was with the VP of Engineering Americas and Director of Residential Engineering. They both seemed a bit lost and distant, like they were just going through the motions and complimenting each other. The VP even made a rude comment about my resume, which others had praised. The next hour was with engineering peers (only one showed) and an HR person who seemed new and untrained in interviewing. After that, the TAC gave me the business case documents and 40 minutes to prep a presentation for a group. But then the HR person came back and said only one person would be there to hear it. After waiting 10 minutes for that person, we just did it with the HR person. I thought that was super rude, but I went through with it and gave my presentation. Afterward, I had a quick, awkward chat about my analysis and was shown out. A week later, they told me they were moving on with other candidates.
- Tell me about a time you had to travel to a plant to fix a significant quality problem.
- What was the reason behind you obtaining your MBA?

The interview day was long, from 8am to 3pm, and ran a bit over. After a tour from the hiring manager, the main interviews started in the morning. There were three one-hour interviews, each with two interviewers. They used questions from corporate forms, focusing on specific past experiences and strictly avoiding hypothetical answers. Most questions were framed as 'Tell us about a time when you...'. No really technical questions or case studies were asked. Lunch followed with the hiring manager and potential coworkers, which was a long but good way to see if I'd fit in. After lunch, there was another tour and a final chat with the hiring manager. I was totally drained by the end. While no single part was super hard, the whole day made it one of the tougher interviews I've had.
- Can you share an experience about a time when you faced a situation that was similar to something you haven't directly experienced before?
Engineer
The first round was a Hirevue with some basic questions like why do you want to work for this company, how well do you work with others, tell me about yourself, etc. The second interview was via Microsoft Teams, and I was interviewed by a lead engineer. This time, I was asked about design decisions I've made in my engineering classes, my experiences working in a group, and extracurricular experiences. They are looking for someone who can work on a team and communicate well.
- Can you share an instance where you were unable to finish a project on schedule, and what you would change in retrospect?
- Describe an engineering design choice you made, including your rationale and the outcome.
- Could you elaborate on a specific project listed on your resume?
