Senior Data Engineer
I had a phone screen with the recruiter, then a discussion with the hiring manager, followed by a Python and SQL assessment and an architecture assessment. I got rejected after talking to the hiring manager. The discussion felt rushed, like they cut me off when I was talking about my background. The hiring manager asked typical questions about data pipelines and gave short answers to my questions about the role. It wasn't a natural conversation, and we only used 20 minutes of the 30 allotted.
- Can you share an instance where you mentored a junior engineer?
- Tell me about your background.
- Describe a data pipeline.
Human Resources
I liked the HR team, they were nice but sometimes things seemed a little chaotic internally. I got an offer, but the pay wasn't great for how big the company is and how much work there is. The benefits weren't great either (only 10 days vacation and really expensive insurance), so it didn't balance out the low salary. The work seemed interesting and the team was friendly, but I turned it down because it wasn't a competitive offer.
- Can you share your relevant experience?
- What is your experience with project coordination?
Software Developer
I went through 2 technical rounds and one HR round. The HR round was actually conducted by someone from the tech team. I answered all the questions asked, but I never heard back from them. It would be good if they provided some feedback after the interview. It makes you wonder if they actually know how to evaluate candidates or if they just pick them randomly. They tend to offer low salaries, and I felt like they couldn't distinguish between a software developer and a senior software developer.
- What frontend questions were asked?
- What data structures and algorithms questions were asked?
- What system design questions were asked?
Customer Experience Strategist
The first interview was with HR/Talent Acquisition. It was a friendly, engaging, and detailed chat about my past experience, mostly situation-based questions, with a few on personal development. I was scheduled for the next interview then. A week later, I had the second interview with two managers. They asked more experience questions, reviewed my resume, and asked for samples of my previous work. They said a decision would be made in about a week as they finished up interviews. I got the offer two days later.
- Tell me about three of your strongest qualities and one area where you're focusing on self-improvement.
