Account Executive
The whole interview process was super organized and felt really personal. The POPs team made me feel so welcome right away. You could tell the culture was great from the start. Marlowe sent me this Trainual guide beforehand with all the info I could want about how the company works internally. It was cool to see what I might be doing once I started. They told me about every step ahead of time. They kept me updated about my position all through the recruiting and interviews. I was referred, so I first chatted with the person who referred me, then had a phone screen, followed by a project and presentation. Since they offered me the job, lots of Trainual folks have welcomed me on LinkedIn. The POPs team is always in touch. They even sent me a personalized "swag" backpack to my place!! (I work remotely.) It was all really great. I'm excited to start!

Social Content Specialist
The interview process at Trainual was incredibly well-organized and supportive from start to finish. It started with an initial screening, where I had the chance to discuss my background, qualifications, and motivations with a recruiter. This step set a positive tone, with clear communication and a focus on mutual fit. Next came the team screening, where I was introduced to members of the team I would potentially be working with. This allowed me to get a sense of the team dynamic and culture, and I appreciated how open and approachable everyone was. The questions were thoughtful, aiming to understand not just my skills, but how I would contribute to and collaborate with the team. One of the most engaging parts of the process was the project presentation, where I was tasked with preparing a project directly related to the position I was applying for. This provided a valuable opportunity to showcase my problem-solving skills and strategic thinking in a real-world context. Trainual's team offered guidance throughout, making sure I had all the information I needed to succeed. Finally, I went through additional team interviews, which were more in-depth and focused on both my role-specific expertise and my alignment with the company’s values. The team was incredibly present, supportive, and transparent at every step. They provided clear expectations and feedback, making the entire process feel collaborative rather than just evaluative. Trainual’s commitment to a smooth, enjoyable experience really stood out. Their approach made the interview process not only productive but also genuinely enjoyable. I felt supported, valued, and excited about the prospect of joining such a dynamic and positive work environment.

Engineering Manager
The interview process was good and they let me know what to expect beforehand, pretty standard stuff. It started with an HR screening. Then, I had a chat with two engineering folks to see if I'd be a good cultural fit. After that, there was a take-home assignment that was paid. You submit a pull request with your changes. The next step was a meeting to review that pull request with two other engineers. For the engineering manager role specifically, I also had a couple more meetings with the director and VP of engineering to talk about management and soft skills.
- Describe how you'd manage a situation where engineers on your team disagree on a technical approach.
- Can you explain your reasoning behind the specific implementation choices you made for the assignment?
- With hindsight, what changes or improvements would you make to your solution?
Event Coordinator
The interview process was pretty chill. The team members are cool and interesting to chat with in person. You also get access to a job candidate portal to learn about the company, the interview process, and what to expect regarding an offer, benefits, and more. For this specific role, there was a LOT of interest, which is why I didn't even make it past the presentation stage. Yes, you do have to do a presentation for this role, but they do give you a $50 Amazon gift card for your time, so it's not unpaid work. The salary offered for this position was $52,500. What made me a bit uneasy about the company's decisions was this note in their candidate portal about salary negotiations: "Do we negotiate? In short, no. After we determine the compensation band for a role, we try to recruit for that range to ensure we aren't creating pay inequity within the team. If/when we extend an offer, we are extending our best offer. We aren't lowballing you. We are coming in with our highest offer based on our thoroughly researched compensation bands for this position. Research shows that opening an offer up to negotiation often leads to or exacerbates gender and racial wage gaps. So that's a hard pass for us." I'm not sure if I want to keep pursuing a position with this team if there's absolutely no room for salary negotiations, because that's pretty standard everywhere else. Just be aware of this company quirk before you continue with your job application or interview process. Personally, I felt $52,500 was quite low for this type of role, especially at a tech company. You do get free travel with the job, but this amount wouldn't be enough to cover my bills and feel financially secure in this economy.
- What did you find most challenging about completing the presentation, and what was the reason behind that difficulty?
