Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at TradeStation.
Software Engineer
They put me through multiple rounds of interviews, and I did an in-person coding exam. After I passed those, I was given a 5-hour code exam to complete on my own time. I went above and beyond, creating an animated UI and a great UI for their code exam, and submitted it early. They said my code was amazing and they wanted to hire me. I reached out twice after they said that but got no response, which was a complete waste of time.
- Could you build a Tetris application in Angular that, given specific inputs, displays the resulting Tetris board?
Software Engineer
A third-party headhunter set up a single interview for me. After getting the job description and agreeing to proceed, I had a pretty straightforward interview. It covered my past work experience, my technical skills, and included behavioral and team player questions. The second part involved coding challenges where I had to identify and fix issues in provided code snippets. After that, they gave me more details about the role and said the recruiter would follow up. The whole thing was about an hour long via Zoom.
- Can you explain the software development life cycle?
- Tell me about a situation where you had a disagreement with a colleague and how you resolved it.
- What's your approach to deploying code to a live production environment to ensure minimal negative impact on customers and reduce downtime?
Software Engineer
It started with a phone interview that just asked some basic programming questions. I was asked to come in to fill out some paperwork, interview, and take a Wonderlic test. In the in-person interview, I was asked a couple programming-related questions, which were completed on the whiteboard. I was then sent a personality test a few days later. I was emailed an offer a few weeks later. It was a long process.
