General Manager
It started with a 30 minute phone call, then a 2 hour in-person interview with the district manager. During the interview, the manager talked a lot about how he fired and rehired staff in some offices, and how he closed and reopened other offices multiple times. It felt like a very unstable environment. He couldn't give me a written summary of the benefits and didn't send them as promised. Also, he mentioned he hadn't finalized the lease for the new office, so there was no actual business location, and he planned to use temporary space from another company until he found a permanent spot. This made it seem like they were just testing the waters and weren't serious about long-term commitment. The role was advertised as operations but it's really just sales management. Expect to work 55-65 hours a week, and in my opinion, the pay isn't worth the time and responsibility involved.
- Lots of questions regarding sales
- Very little emphasis was put on operations
General Manager
I had a phone interview where they asked a bunch of set questions. It was mostly about how my background connects to the company's objectives. They asked how my sales and management experience could boost productivity. We started with me talking about my background, and some questions tied into that. I also got asked some basic stuff about construction and manufacturing.
- Tell me about a time you went above and beyond for customer service.
- How can your sales and management experience be used to improve productivity?
- Could you describe your background?
General Manager
After 25 years in management, I've never encountered an interview process as unusual as this. It involved a total of 5 hours of interviews with three different people, with one initial phone screening and two in-person meetings. Each subsequent interview became progressively stranger. The final interview with a VP was particularly bizarre. He acknowledged high turnover, and I asked why and how this happens given the extensive 5-hour interview process for candidates and the offer of a shockingly low starting salary with no benefits for the first year – which he didn't seem to grasp as sarcasm. The compensation package was the worst I've ever heard of, and the final interview felt like a profoundly narcissistic experience.
- Do you have prior direct B2B sales experience?
