Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tractian.
Account Executive
The recruiter managed the process well. The director was also very good. The process was well-structured, and they provided a lot of input to understand the day-to-day work. The only negative point was the last interview, where they agreed on one objective with me, but the interview went in another direction.
- Could you share your past experiences?
- What are your expectations?
Account Executive
The recruiter contacted me on LinkedIn, we scheduled a chat, and they said they would give me an answer about the position the following week. It's been almost a month now with no word. I find this lack of consideration for candidates really frustrating!
- Can you tell me a bit about yourself?
- What are your commercial goals within this company?
- Describe the sales techniques you employ during negotiations.
Account Executive
The interview process involved 6 steps: recruiter, hiring manager, VP of sales, a fellow AE, a mock sales call, and a QBR. The first interview was with the recruiter, lasting 30 minutes. This person seemed a bit uninterested and just went through a list of typical interview questions without really engaging with the answers. A notable point was the recruiter's lack of understanding about software and data at a high level and how it relates to Tractian's business, which is hardware with a software/SaaS component. It was hard to explain how prior software experience was relevant because the recruiter just didn't grasp it, which negatively impacted the interview as they seemed to be looking for an engineering or mechanical background. Beyond standard questions, the recruiter mentioned the company's 'high performance culture' and that they only 'hire the top 1%'. The next interview was with the hiring manager, also 30 minutes. It was standard Q&A for 27 minutes, leaving only 3 minutes for my questions. The hiring manager seemed to be very critical of the questions asked, offering unsolicited opinions on whether they were 'right or wrong'. Like the recruiter, they also talked about the 'high performance culture,' which sounded more like an overly critical environment disguised as a 'feedback culture.' There were many sports analogies, with the hiring manager comparing Tractian to a great college football team, aiming for only 'A+ players.' The conversation concluded with 'I will send my interview notes to the VP of sales and they will decide if they want to interview you.' Overall, the company presented itself as having high standards, but the interactions didn't reflect that. The sales leadership seemed inexperienced, and the interviews lacked polish and focus, coming across as naive and overly confident, like all talk and no action. It became clear they prefer AEs who are young, hungry, impressionable, not from a SaaS background, and open to daily criticism (implying they are easily managed). In the future, they should consider longer interview slots after the initial recruiter screen, allow candidates more time to ask questions and assess the culture for themselves, and tone down the arrogant language.
- Could you explain what Tractian does?
- What is your current situation?
- What prompted your departure from your previous role?
