Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tractable.
Applied Researcher
Before the technical interview, I had a chat with the data science recruiter about the job. We talked about relocation and salary limits, my past work, and why I'm interested in this role.
- Can you tell me about your previous work experience?
- Are you open to relocating?
- What are your salary expectations?
Applied Researcher
First round was a 30 min chat with HR asking me to walk through my CV. Then a 1 hour interview where they asked me coding questions and behavioural questions about my past experience, walk me through my resume, and discuss about past projects. Finally, a take-home task that I had 3-5 working days to complete. They didn't provide any feedback and just said they weren't moving forward with my application. Very disrespectful.
- Can you walk me through your CV?
- Could you implement a cumulative distribution function?
- Do you have any questions about the coding implementation?
Applied Researcher
We'll start with a 60 min call with the recruitment team, then you'll have an interview with the hiring manager where you'll tackle a math-based Python question. After that, there's a research project/home exercise, followed by 3 more interviews. These will cover your project, machine learning, statistics, and a cultural fit interview.
- Tell me about a research project you found particularly challenging.
- What aspects of being an ML researcher do you find most rewarding?
- What is your interest in Tractable?
