First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Tractable.
Applied Scientist
I recently interviewed for a compelling project where I got to showcase my involvement in developing a sophisticated system. Throughout six interview rounds, I thoroughly discussed my contributions to the project, highlighting its complexities and the innovative solutions we implemented. Each round, including the coding assessments, received positive feedback from the interviewers, confirming my technical abilities and problem-solving skills. Unfortunately, despite the positive responses, I didn't get an offer, so I don't have more insight into the decision.
- Tell me about the project you worked on
- Discuss machine learning concepts related to your project
- Go through a coding exercise

The interview process is very straightforward, and the communication throughout from Tractable was great. I received feedback on each interview 1 or 2 days later. Here are the different stages: 1. Basic first interview, discussion about salary and expectations. 2. CV walkthrough and behavioral questions from a Team lead. 3. Take home test. 4. Last stage on the same day: - 1h ML/Stat interview about past experience and new case - 1h CV walkthrough and behavioral questions with another team lead - 1h review of the take home test. Overall very satisfied with the process and the people I met. The process was pretty fast, and they tell you very quickly if they are interested.
- Can you provide a walkthrough of your CV?
- What is your motivation for applying to Tractable?
- Could you elaborate on your salary expectations?
Data Scientist
First, there was an initial HR call, followed by a 1-hour technical stage. They didn't mention it would be a 'live code' session beforehand. The interviewer seemed to lack knowledge in Python, which made it hard for them to understand my solutions. The vibe shifted, and the rest of the interview felt awkward and was cut short. It's been over 5 weeks with no feedback from the recruiter, not even a courtesy message. It's a shame basic manners aren't a requirement. This company seems to have low-quality engineering talent, especially in their start-up teams with developers lacking software engineering background. They reject or ignore candidates after we've already invested time in their ridiculous interview process. Just avoid this place if you can.
- Tell me about your Python experience and a time you overcame challenges while solving a problem.
- Can you share an example of a challenging problem you solved and how you overcame the obstacles?
