First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Toys "R" Us.
Sales
It was a short interview focusing on my sales background, my motivations for this role, and how my university degree and post-graduation experiences align with the job requirements.
- Can you discuss your previous sales experience?
- What draws you to this particular position?
- What makes you decide to pursue this opportunity?
Sales Assistant
Got called in for an interview - said was about 3 hours max. Didn't say that if it was a group interview or one-on-one. It was a group interview. Introduced selves to group. Was split into 2 groups and given several scenarios to put in order of priority. Went into store and was each given scenarios, in which we had to choose a suitable object to sell to the 'customer' (interviewer), depending on the scenario. Was then split into pairs and given a sheet of paper with 5 different scenarios. Together, you write a list of products you would advertise towards a customer (that Toys R Us sells), according to the scenarios. Then there will be a one-on-one interview with the interviewer. While waiting, was given a paper with scenarios, testing your mathematics skills. It is basic math questions, like additions/subtractions and multiplications. Basically, the interview was full of scenarios.
- Tell me about your favorite toy from childhood.
- Can you give an instance where you exceeded expectations?
- What makes you the ideal candidate for this position?
Sales Representative
The interview was a group setting where they asked us about our favorite movie, childhood toy, and a hobby, and to describe ourselves using the first letter of our name. Then, we had to sell a toy to other groups and sell anything we wanted (I sold my iPhone because I knew everything about it). After that, they said we'd get a call later that day about the job. I got called and had to come in the next day to meet the manager. Then, I waited for my background check to clear. Once it cleared, I had an orientation and started that same day.
