I sent in my application on Monday and got a call the very next day on Tuesday for an interview later that same afternoon. The interview itself was pretty quick and straightforward. The manager started by introducing herself and telling us a bit about the job. There were five of us interviewed together. We each had to introduce ourselves and then share a time we dealt with a problem, either as an employee or with a customer, and explain how we fixed it. After that, we had to grab a toy and try to sell it to the manager in 20 seconds. The manager then threw a curveball by having us swap toys with someone else in the group, so we had to practice selling something we weren't familiar with. The whole thing took about 30-40 minutes. I got offered the job the next morning and I'm just waiting for the background check to clear so they can call me in for orientation.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Why do you want to work here?
  • Tell us about yourself, and describe a time you faced an issue as an employee or with a customer, and how you resolved it.
  • You'll need to pick a toy and try to sell it to the manager in 20 seconds. Be prepared to sell a toy that you may not be familiar with, as you might have to switch the toy you picked with someone else.

When you come in for the interview at Toys r Us, you'll be in a room with at least 4 other people who want the job too. First, they'll ask you to pick out your favorite toy. Then, in the interview, you'll need to explain why it's your favorite. They'll also have you try to sell some toys they picked out, by telling everyone the good things and features about them. After that, they'll do one-on-one chats to ask more personal stuff, like about your past jobs. They usually call the people they think didn't do as well in the first part to get them in and out quickly. So, if you're one of the last ones called, that's a good sign! The whole thing usually takes at least an hour. But if it's during a busy season, like near Christmas, they'll make it much shorter, especially if they haven't hired enough people that week.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Can you pick out a toy and tell me why you like it? Then, how would you sell it to me, and what are its features?
  • Do you feel comfortable selling extra items?
  • Can you commit to achieving company goals for things like rewards card sign-ups, credit cards, batteries, and replacement plans?

this was my very first interview and I was pretty nervous. First up was a group interview which was super anxiety-inducing because I'm not great at public speaking. They told us about the company and how the store worked, which helped calm me down a bit. Then, we had to pick an item from the sales floor and 'advertise' it to everyone. After that, we had to create our own item in groups of 3 and 'sell' it. Next, we paired up, got a sheet to write about ourselves, and then presented. Finally, the 1:1 interviews started, where they asked typical questions like 'tell me about yourself' and 'why should I hire you?'. They said they'd call in about a week. I didn't hear back, so I called them and they said the background checks weren't ready yet. After a long wait, they let me know they weren't going to hire me.
