This role had a few interview stages. First, I spoke with the Market President, and then the regional manager. Both of these interviews were conducted over the phone. Each interview lasted about 30-45 minutes. The questions were standard for an Account Executive role.

The state level folks required extensive written test, but then when I got to the local leadership, she told me that the job didn't pay enough to raise a family and then asked if I was "sickly" because the medical benefits were poor and expensive. She hadn't looked at anything in my application materials -- which had extensive writing about what I would do in the position. She also said quality writing didn't matter and that their DJs were "divas" and asked if I was prepared to get yelled at by their staff. I wasn't.

The recruiter cold-called me, catching me by surprise. I'm very qualified for this role, having been in similar positions for over a decade and recently moved beyond it. The conversation was odd, but she offered to set up a call with the hiring manager. That call never happened. She responded to my follow-up emails saying she was talking to the hiring manager that day and would let me know soon, but never did, even after I followed up twice more by email and once on LinkedIn. Oddly, she was recently promoted.

I had two phone interviews and did two separate editing tests, but then never heard back about the job. First, I was asked to do this editing test within 24 hours, which I did, even though I had a full-time job and my mom was admitted to the hospital the day before. The test involved: 1. Critiquing the content of one of our local Portsmouth sites, focusing only on articles and blog posts, and suggesting specific improvements. 2. Listing 10 article ideas for a Portsmouth site, with catchy, SEO-friendly headlines. 3. Writing two of those articles with proper formatting. Then, I had to do a timed editing task live. The facilitator was late sending me the articles, but I had to edit and punch up two articles, adding voice and tone, proper web headlines, and a way to involve the audience, all within 30-45 minutes. After completing everything, I never heard back about the job.
