Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Totango.
Customer Success Manager
The interview process was pretty straightforward. First, there was a phone call with a recruiter. Then, I had two Zoom interviews, one with the Director of Customer Success and another with the Chief Commercial Officer. The last step was a panel interview and a presentation where I had to create a slide deck showcasing Totango's value, and the panel acted as potential new customers.
- Can you share an instance where you successfully de-escalated a situation with an angry client?
- Describe your experience in growing existing customer accounts through upselling strategies.
Customer Success Manager
It was a really long process. An internal referral was submitted, but I didn't hear anything back. I followed up with the employee who referred me, and after a few tries, they were told hiring was paused, even though jobs were still posted. But then, a recruiter reached out. The recruiter had me talk to a cofounder first, not the hiring manager. After that, I had to do personality and skills assessments. Then, I met with three people who would be my peers in similar roles. The last person I met had a Director title, and it wasn't until we were talking that I realized I wouldn't be reporting to them.
- Each meeting was 30 minutes to 1 hour long, and the questions were extensive and detailed.
- At no point did anyone clarify who managed the group, despite me asking probing questions.
- There were unusual gaps in communication, even though I was told the timing was urgent.
Customer Success Manager
I applied back in May, and about six weeks later, I got an interview request. Before that, I had to take an IQ/aptitude test. Then I met with who I think was supposed to be my manager. Honestly, within the first two minutes, I could tell this wasn't going to be what I was looking for. The person interviewing me was super cold and barely made eye contact. They sounded really robotic, and their questions made it obvious that their CS team is completely swamped with work. I felt like I did pretty well, but afterward, I really didn't want to work with or for that person. I was actually kind of relieved when they told me the next day that they were going with other candidates. Save yourself the time if you're interviewing elsewhere. I'd be shocked if anyone found this experience to be worth it.
- What makes you the right choice for this role?
- Can you walk me through your experience?
