I applied online and got a call within 3 days to attend an assessment centre the next day. It was in Oxford circus at the flagship store. The interview was a large group setting with about 16-18 people and 3 interviewers, lasting around an hour and a half. It had 4 parts. First, an icebreaker where we partnered up with someone nearby to find out information and a weird common fact, then shared with the group. Second, we split into smaller groups of 3-4 to explore the shop floor, identify positives, suggest improvements, and propose how to present these ideas (e.g., song, dance, presentation). This was a chance to stand out. Third, in new groups of 3-4, we were given a scenario and a person to build an outfit for from selected clothes and then present it. Interviewers asked questions and presented new scenarios spontaneously, requiring quick thinking. This was my favorite part, as I enjoy styling and creativity, and it was good for group interaction. Finally, there was a short one-to-one interview, about 10 questions, discussing availability, contract type, and previous brand experience. My interview was on a Thursday, and I received a call on the following Monday offering me the job. The overall process was fun and relaxed, focusing on personality and teamwork.

Group Behavioral Presentation

It was a 2 day interview process. Day 1 was a casual GROUP task where you had to rate priorities and come to an agreed verdict. This was then followed with a one on one discussion about the role, your availability and any questions you may have. If you were successful at this point, you would be shortlisted to the 2nd day interview process. Day 2 consisted of a pairs exercise where you were given a hypothetical customer and had to find clothes/accessories for them within their given budget. Then you had to explain how this matches the needs of the customer. After this exercise, you had a one on one full interview/discussion which were most competency based questions and your past experiences.

Group Behavioral Presentation

My experience applying for Topman was an unpleasant one due to the disorganized management overseeing new employees. The first time I applied at Topman (Pacific Centre, Vancouver location) I applied in person and left my resume and availability with an associate at the cash desk. I received a call about a week later to come in for a group interview. I was interviewed alongside 5 other applicants. The manager told everyone that applicants who did not yet apply online needed to do so and that we would know the results of the interview within the next two days. However I did not receive a call back during this time. A week later, I received another call from Topman, this time from a different manager. I asked the manager if this was a second phase of the interview I just had as I had already come in to an interview the previous week and did not receive a job offer. The manager replied Yes and told me to come in for another group interview in a couple of days. Unfortunately, my suspicions were confirmed and the management seemed to forget that one of their interviewees had already been screened. It was the same manager doing the same first phase interview as the last time I was there. Not only that, the questions were all exactly the same. Many of the applicants this time were also overseas newcomers and we were told we'd know the results before the end of the following week. I did not hear from them again.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Can you name a feature or benefit of the outfit you are wearing, and then sell it to me as if I were a customer?
