A HR from the company reached out to me to set up a recruiting meeting. We scheduled a time, but the HR did not show up and did not inform me. I emailed her to remind her about the meeting, and she replied that she couldn't make it that day and suggested we meet tomorrow. I immediately responded with my availability, but I haven't heard back from her since. This experience was unprofessional.

For an internal promotion to this role, I had to interview with the District Manager. When hiring externally, department managers and store managers conduct the interviews. It's a friendly environment, so don't stress about encountering a difficult HR person who has many other interviews lined up. Make sure to dress professionally; even though it's a retail job, you still need to represent the brand well.

I called the store to inquire about management openings and was fortunate to speak with the store manager. I mentioned my 25+ years of sales/PR experience and asked if they were hiring for management roles. She confirmed they were and we spoke for about 5 minutes, with me briefly outlining my background and what I'm seeking. I asked for an email to send my resume, and she provided one. About 15 minutes after I sent it, she replied, asking if I was available for an interview the next day. The interview was at 9 am. The manager was very knowledgeable about the company and its expectations. She seemed very friendly and welcoming. By the end of the interview, she asked if I'd be interested in the STORE management position as well, since she was leaving soon and needed a replacement. She mentioned the next step would be to contact her district manager, and if he agreed, they would set up a second interview with him by phone, no later than Wednesday. She promised to call me either way to let me know the outcome. I'm now anxiously awaiting her call.
