The interview didn't go as well as I'd hoped because the job duties weren't totally a good fit for my academic background, even though the posting said it was open to all majors. This made it tough for me to show how my skills could actually fit the role.

The selection process for the Tokyo Marine Summer Internship involved three main steps. First, there was an online web exam with Japanese reading comprehension and quantitative questions. Preparation for this can be done using the Japanese web test guidebook. Successful candidates were then invited to an online group interview, lasting an hour with one HR employee and three students. Results from this stage were emailed within a week. The interview started by connecting to a URL, where each person had one minute to discuss a significant effort from their student years. This was followed by more in-depth questions about the initiative's origins, challenges, and how they were overcome. The interview felt friendly. Because of the time limit, being concise was important. Preparing questions based on your Entry Sheet (ES) was helpful, and having a structured one-minute intro was key. The final step was a 30-minute online individual interview with an HR representative. Results were emailed within two weeks. This also started with a URL connection. Questions were based on a submitted personal history document, covering different life stages and efforts made. They explored the reasons for starting activities, encountered challenges, and personal growth. Strengths were also discussed. The atmosphere was friendly. Choosing specific stories for the personal history document could steer the interview. It was hard to predict exact questions, so reflecting on past experiences and being honest was crucial. Having prepared anecdotes helped communication.

The whole process started on Gupy. The first stage included English/logic tests and others, and if you moved on, you'd create a PowerPoint about yourself (this stage was in-person). During the in-person stage, they talked about the company, the internship program, and the benefits. Moving to the next stage, you'd solve a case for an area that HR selected for you based on your profile; unfortunately, you don't get to choose the area yourself. I'd say it's a somewhat difficult case to solve. The case presentation is online, in front of three people who could be your future manager. There's a job rotation in the area you're selected for, giving you the chance to 'experience' other roles and departments. The recruiter gave a feedback timeframe of 15 days, but it ended up taking almost a month to get a response.
