They kept me waiting for over six weeks with hardly any updates or feedback, and I had no clue how the hiring manager felt about my candidacy. Eventually, I was asked to complete a final project that ended up taking me four times longer than expected. During the presentation, I asked if there was anything missing or if I could have elaborated further. They responded with 'Nope, this was great.' Later, I was informed they chose someone with more experience, which makes me wonder if they were ever genuinely considering me. It feels like they strung me along for almost two months and had me dedicate days and late nights to a pointless project, especially since they had already made their decision beforehand.

I got an email from a recruiter after I submitted my resume online. Then, there was a quick chat about how the process works - it was supposed to be five interviews, all scheduled in a block. One interview got cancelled, one was rescheduled, and one person showed up at the wrong time. Luckily, I had left the link open so I didn't miss the last interview. The interviewers I spoke with were professional and friendly, and they were very clear about what the job involved. They focused a lot on 'company fit,' making sure I had the right personality and temperament for the role. They also wanted to know if I had any general knowledge about the industry, like about their competitors, clients, and employees, to see what I already knew.

Behavioral Technical Case Presentation

I applied on LinkedIn and got a quick response from the recruiter. The first call went well; the recruiter talked about Toast, the job, and pay, and I shared my background. They were moving fast initially, which was good. I met the Hiring Manager soon after the recruiter call, and it was all behavioral questions. The HM liked me and wanted me to do a case study. This is where it got annoying. They said a couple of hours for the case study, but it was way more involved than that. I was willing to do it because I liked the company and role, but it felt like too much work for an applicant. After the case study, they scheduled a "Super Day" which they said would be four 30-minute interviews (3 hours total). But my actual schedule had seven interviews (two with HR) the whole day. I had to take the full day off work. The interviews themselves were okay, but a full day of virtual interviews was really draining. After that, I spoke with the Recruiter who told me when I'd hear back and mentioned they were considering another candidate and possibly a third. While the transparency was nice, it didn't tell me where I stood. I heard back in about a week to schedule the final interview with the VP. I was initially told this was just for final approval, so I felt confident. Meeting the VP was great, and it felt like a good chat. After that, it took almost three weeks to get the final decision: they wanted someone with more experience, so they were continuing their search. Honestly, they should have figured that out much earlier (I shouldn't have had to talk to 5+ people for that). It was also frustrating that they kept delaying my feedback, saying they were finishing other interviews, which suggests they did the same to others. The job posting didn't even list minimum experience requirements. My overall impression is they need to be more organized about what they're looking for upfront to avoid making candidates go through a whole process only to reject them for something that could have been screened out initially.
