Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at TNTP.
Director
My interview had 4 parts: a prescreen, hiring exercise, 1st interview, and 2nd interview. The prescreen was with a 3rd party agency, who didn't share much about the company, but did mention salary range and interview steps. The hiring exercise took way longer than the 2 hours stated. The first interview was an hour, going over my hiring exercise. During this, one interviewer mentioned handling DEI and sparked some questions about why a white person was in charge of it. The second and final interview was supposed to focus on staff experience but felt like a repeat of the first interview with unrelated questions, even though prep info was provided. They said I'd hear back within a week, but I got an email the next day saying they found other candidates who were a better fit. For a final interview, a phone call or a more personal email would have been better given the time invested.
- Have you done remote work before?
- Can you share an instance where you collaborated with underrepresented or underprivileged communities?
Director
The whole process took about three months, and they were upfront about this timeline from the start. It began with a phone screening that was more detailed than a typical one, maybe more like a phone interview. This was followed by a task and then two more interviews. One interview was with the team, and the final one was with the VP.
- Can you share an experience about working with clients and what you would change about it?
- Tell me about a time your intended results didn't match the actual outcome and how you handled it.
- Describe your approach when working with clients.
Director
First, there was a screening call with HR where they just read the job description. They asked a few basic questions and didn't let me ask any questions about the role. Then, I was given a skills assessment that was supposed to take 3-4 hours, involving a lot of data analysis with a huge raw dataset, which felt like a lot to ask. After that, I was supposed to interview based on the assessment and sent my availability. But within an hour, HR emailed back saying they made a mistake and I wasn't moving forward because my name was similar to someone else's and the hiring manager already picked candidates. It seems like they made me do the assessment before the hiring manager even reviewed resumes. Also, they shared confidential data in the raw dataset. I wouldn't recommend this company.
- Can you share an instance where you leveraged data to inform your decision-making?
