TNG Merchandising Interview Questions
& Process

A recruiter reached out via email about a Retail Merchandiser role after I had started an application but not finished it. The email outlined the stores I'd cover, weekly hours, and pay of $10/hr, asking me to finish the application if interested. After completing it, I received an email the next day to schedule a phone interview, which happened a few days later. The interviewer was friendly and asked for a summary of my background with some casual chat. Two days after that, I met the District Supervisor at a Walmart for an in-person walkthrough, where they demonstrated the merchandising tasks. We chatted casually, and by the end of the hour, they asked about my continued interest, availability, and ability to lift and carry magazine bins. After providing my personal information, I was able to start two days later.

I started by introducing myself and trying to set a relaxed tone. The interviewer asked a lot about my experience and skills, and I answered as clearly and directly as I could. I made an effort to appear confident and highlight my strengths. At the end, they invited me to ask questions, so I took the opportunity to clear up some doubts about the role. After that, they thanked me for my time and explained what happens next in the process. I left with a good feeling, thinking I managed to show what I can do.

They sent me a sales assignment with excel and powerpoint questions. After passing the test, I had a short interview (less than 20 mins). I was told they don't have recruiters. I was emailed the address and time, but never told who would interview me or what floor they were on. The front desk didn't know I had an interview, I guess they forgot. I was highly qualified but didn't get an offer due to lack of actual professional experience.

After arriving and getting some coffee, there was a short wait. I gave a brief presentation about the company. Then, we had a short technical interview with general questions. Following that was a whiteboard challenge where I had to write Java code on the whiteboard. Finally, there were some follow-up questions and clarifications.
