First up, there's a HackerRank online assessment. If you do well, you'll move on to a LeetCode-style data structures and algorithms round. Then, there's a Frontend/React coding round where you'll build UI components, manage state, handle events, and talk about performance. The last step is a hiring manager interview to check your experience, how you collaborate, and if you're a good fit for the team and product.

It was a smooth process and they mostly asked questions based on my resume, focusing on frontend fundamentals like the meaning of 302 responses, the distinction between stateful and stateless concepts, and how frontend and backend communicate. They also gave me a coding challenge to create a calculator that accepts string inputs.

The interview process at TikTok was really well-organized and moved fast. It started with a recruiter call where we chatted about my experience and what I'm looking for. Then, I had a technical screen with a frontend engineer. This involved a live coding challenge using JavaScript and React. After that, I moved onto the onsite interviews, which were virtual and had 3 parts: system design with a frontend angle, coding, and behavioral. The interviewers were all very professional, and the questions were tough but fair. The whole thing wrapped up in about 3 weeks.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Could you explain how to create a custom hook for API data fetching in React?
  • What's your approach to designing a live chat widget that supports real-time message updates and can be embedded anywhere?
