Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at TIAA.
Consultant
A recruiter reached out shortly after I applied and set up a phone call. During the call, she went over my background, my interest in the company, and the role itself. She asked if I wanted to continue with the process. The next day, I received a call to set up an interview. I was expecting a mock call and a fake sale based on what I read, but those weren't part of my experience. Instead, two interviewers asked me behavioral questions. They seemed to respond well when I asked about the job and the company. Even though I didn't feel I nailed my answers, the original recruiter called a week later with a job offer.
- Can you share an instance where you made an error?
- What would your colleagues say about you?
- Tell me about a time you dealt with a challenging client.
Consultant
First I had a quick phone chat with the HR recruiter about the job details, what skills are needed, and my background. They told me I'd be contacted for an in-person interview, which happened a few days later. This face-to-face interview was with two managers who asked about my background and skills and how they'd work for the job. They really focused on the sales part, like creating opportunities and finding client assets. They also mentioned the 11-8 shift a lot. Towards the end, I did a mock call to show my customer service and sales abilities. After that, I took a short computer-based personality test.
- In what ways can customer service be leveraged to generate sales?
Communication Consultant
The interview process was pretty straightforward, with just two main stages: first, an interview with the managing director and some peers, and then another with contributing partners. Everything was done over Zoom. The questions weren't too tough and didn't require a ton of prep, no real curveballs. I heard back about getting the job about a week later.
- Can you walk me through your previous work experience?
