Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Thumbtack.
UX Researcher
I applied online and got an invite for a phone interview with the recruiter. It was a pretty standard process, and the recruiter was friendly. She mentioned they'd let me know about the next steps, but I haven't heard back since.
- What motivates your interest in joining Thumbtack?
User Researcher
I met with a designer initially for coffee, and a few people from design and research dropped by. They explained the role, and I was interested. I asked to be referred for the User Researcher position. The next day, a recruiter called to say they wanted to proceed and walked me through the interview process. The recruiter was really nice and answered some personal questions I had. Then, I had two 30-minute onsite interviews with other researchers. After that, I had a 3-hour onsite with a larger group where I did a portfolio review, a mock research activity, and a culture fit assessment. We also had lunch together. The recruiter kept me updated and scheduled interviews quickly, making me feel really valued. It was the best interview experience I've had recently.
- What would you do if a stakeholder or client requested research that couldn't be completed within the given time or budget?
- How do you envision working with product managers, engineers, designers, and analysts on the team?
UX Researcher
The interview was pretty straightforward, with questions mostly focused on my background, previous experience, the research methods I've employed in past projects, and how I collaborate within a team. It started with the recruiter asking me questions, and then I had the opportunity to ask about the company culture, the team dynamics, and the ongoing projects. The recruiter did a great job making me feel comfortable.
- Can you share some information about your background and the research methods you've utilized?
- Could you elaborate on your specific contributions to your past research projects?
- What were some of the most significant challenges you encountered in those projects?
