First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Thumbtack.
Product Manager
The interview process involved three stages: first, a chat with the recruiter. Then, there were two calls with PMs. The first PM call was really good. We discussed my background, previous work, how I approach product strategy, and my execution methods. The interviewer seemed genuinely enthusiastic about Thumbtack, which was contagious. However, the second call, which was a video interview, was disappointing. The interviewer appeared impatient, frequently interrupting me and moving to the next question before I could finish. They also seemed to seek very specific answers, which struck me as odd given the emphasis on growth mindset and inclusivity. To top it off, the interviewer yawned multiple times without an apology. Considering I was three hours ahead, it felt more disrespectful than uninterested. The recruiter was helpful throughout.
- Can you share details about your past projects?
Principal Product Manager
The hiring manager reached out to me directly via email instead of a recruiter, which was pretty unusual and cool. We set up a quick, casual chat that I thought would just be a general get-to-know-you, but she quickly dove into asking about my product management successes and made her decision within 10 minutes. While I appreciated the speed, I also felt like I didn't really get a chance to show I was more than capable for the job.
- Could you share your key success metrics?
- Which accomplishment as a product manager are you most proud of?
Product Manager
It was the best interview process ever. It was long but the team assigns an internal champion who wants you to succeed. My recruiter prepped me with a detailed list of everything needed for each interview and was proactive in answering any questions. I had her personal cell number and she helped me with everything from first contact to finding a neighborhood to live in. The questions were non-technical but thorough, including an all-day onsite with a product presentation. Very Google-y.

- Analyzing the offering and website of {this website}, what improvements would you suggest for their growth?
