A recruiter reached out to me for a staff frontend position. Had the tech screen which I expected from a frontend interview. The interviewer sold me on Thumbtack and how they had a dedicated frontend experience for engineers. The onsite was anything but that. Feature design felt like a "help me improve a feature I'm responsible for." Fast forward to a leetcode styled interview question that had no part in being in a frontend interview. The feedback was interesting, questioning my problem solving skills? Onsite had two leetcode styled questions late in the day that make no sense in asking a frontend

A Thumbtack recruiter reached out to me. The process kicked off with a phone screen, then moved to a half-day of on-site panels. Each part included a non-technical/cultural question to start, followed by a technical one. I also got to ask my own questions after each segment. The final stage involved chatting about whatever I wanted with several company leaders. My recruiter was great at keeping me informed, managing my expectations, and answering everything I asked. The overall interview at Thumbtack was fantastic, and that last reverse-interview really helped me decide!

I got contacted by a recruiter on Linkedin. The first step was a phone screen with the recruiter, followed by a coding challenge they sent over. After submitting my code, I received feedback from the dev team saying I wasn't a good fit. They were mostly fair and objective, but one comment about HTML being a "DIV wonderland" rubbed me the wrong way, and I felt some sarcasm. Be warned, if you're really set on working at Thumbtack, you'll need to dedicate about 4 to 6 hours to get your code perfect because they scrutinize every detail. Even with that much effort, there's no guarantee of moving to a phone or onsite interview. So, if you're not okay with potentially spending 4-6 hours on a code challenge without getting an onsite, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. On top of that, the recruiter wasn't very responsive, sometimes I didn't even get a confirmation or reply to my emails. Overall, it just doesn't feel like a good fit for me.
