Community Support Specialist
I had applied for a different job at the Veterans Project, but they hired someone else for that one. The recruiter then suggested I interview for the Community Support Specialist role instead. The job description wasn't very clear about what the job actually entailed. The recruiter described it as a 'life-coaching' role where I'd primarily talk to veterans from the office and only occasionally visit communities or homes. However, the reality is that I'd be using my own car to drive disabled veterans to appointments and errands, essentially being a driver for them. I saw the job reposted on LinkedIn recently, which makes me think the person they hired might have quit due to burnout from how demanding the job is. After my interview, I was ghosted and never heard back, which was disappointing even though I wasn't interested in the job after learning more about it.
- How would you handle a situation where a schizophrenic veteran experienced a psychotic episode while in your car?
Support Specialist
A recruiter contacted me after I applied. They did the first screening and I passed. Then I interviewed with the assistant director of the site. The interview took about 30 mins to an hour. I got an offer over the phone right after that. You should ask for the offer in writing though, cuz the salary on the phone was more than the letter. It was a fast process.
- What makes you want this job?
Community Support Specialist
I applied and then the office manager called me to talk about my interests and background. We set up an interview right then on the phone. The interview was less than a week later. I went to the office, filled out an application, and brought two copies of my resume. It was a group interview where they asked typical questions about the type of care I have, my orientation with clients, my history working with clients, and ways I have worked in the past. After the interview, about 4-5 days later, the supervisor called to get more information, like a second interview, because they didn't feel they had enough information to decide. The supervisor said they'd let me know soon. A few days later, I got a call and was offered the job, which I accepted.
