I was initially reached out to on LinkedIn by a hiring team member to schedule a 30-minute phone interview, which I completed. The interview went well, and I was then given an assignment to complete within the specified timeframe. Following that, I advanced to an interview with the managing editor. This interview focused heavily on my perceptions of my current manager and our professional relationship, with only a couple of questions touching on my past editing experience or the specifics of the role.

So the interview process was pretty thorough, four interviews total. First, a recruiter call, then a manager interview. After that, an editor from a sister team interviewed me, and finally, a member of the executive team. Oh, and I had to do an editorial assessment sometime between interviews, mine was between the 3rd and 4th. They do this to make sure they get the right people for the job and the company vibe.

I went through three interviews. First, a recruiter called, then I spoke with two different managers. The recruiter was great. The second interview went fine, but the third one was awful. I don't think the interviewer had much experience and it showed. I'm not sure if she was bored with me or just bored in general, but she kept looking out the window. The company never got back to me after that – no response to my emails, not even a basic rejection. I'm mid-career and I suspect this company attracts a younger crowd, so I'm not too upset. But given how this interview went, I definitely wouldn't recommend this company to anyone.
