I was contacted twice on LinkedIn over a 3-month period by recruiters. The first time, I had a 35-40 minute phone interview that I thought went well because my experience matched the job description, but I was rejected. The second time, another recruiter reached out. I had another 35-40 minute phone interview that also went well. This time, I was given a writing test where I had to write a 1200-1500 word article similar to what they publish on their website. I spent a lot of time on it, followed the instructions, and made sure it fit their content style. I submitted it, but was rejected again via a generic email saying they were moving on with other candidates, with no feedback. This seems to be a common issue for writer/editor roles there, and I think they should provide feedback, especially after making candidates do a significant writing assessment.

I went through a few rounds of interviews. It started with a recruiter chat, then I talked to someone on the writing team, and finally, I met with senior management. I liked that they asked questions to make sure it would be a good fit for both sides. Everyone kept me in the loop and was open when I asked questions. It seemed like a great team to join.

I went through three rounds of interviews. The first two interviewers were professional, pleasant and knowledgeable about the company and role, even if their interview questions were textbook. My last interview was with a manager who was clearly NOT trained or skilled in interviewing candidates. Besides having awkward social and conversational skills, she barely made eye contact with me and when she did look at me seemed to be put off by my age. I followed up like a good sport but never got a response or even an auto reject.
