So the whole interview thing for this SRE/DevOps gig was pretty standard, you know. Started with the recruiter just chatting to see if I was a fit. Then there was a technical phone chat where they drilled down on the basic DevOps stuff. After that, it was like 2 or 3 more sessions where we talked about system design, how to fix things when they break, and also chatted about CI/CD pipelines, cloud stuff, and dealing with incidents. The folks interviewing me really knew their stuff and were more into seeing how I'd actually solve problems in the real world, not just asking random theory questions.

  • Can you explain core DevOps concepts?
  • Tell me about your experience with system design.
  • Describe a troubleshooting scenario you encountered.

So, I got into this company through the CDC Internship Drive. The whole process at ThoughtSpot had two main stages. First, there was an Online Assessment that lasted for an hour. It had 3 questions that were all about Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA). These questions weren't straightforward; they really probed my understanding of things like Dynamic Programming, Graphs, and basic data structures like stacks, queues, and trees. It was a test to see how I could apply concepts under pressure. The second stage was the Technical + Behavioral Interview, which was the final round. It kicked off with introductions, and then there was this cool question: "Tell me something about yourself that’s not on your resume." It was a good way to show my personality. The technical part focused on Object-Oriented Programming (OOP). I had two coding questions, and the second one was built upon the first one, so they were related and showed how I could build on my ideas. The next day, I got the call that I was selected, which was awesome.

Confirmed questions4 questions
  • Can you share something about yourself that isn't already detailed on your resume?
  • Could you explain an OOPs concept, covering aspects like Schema & Classes/objects/constructor?
  • What was the follow-up to the OOPs question?

5 rounds of interview, with 2 dsa/algo and 3 design rounds. The design/algo rounds happened onsite. The first 2 rounds got postponed multiple times, which was a waste of time and showed bad culture. During the onsite round, HR didn't let me go to lunch, saying interviewers were waiting and I could go after completing the interviews. Interviewers lacked clarity in what to ask; in one system design interview, the interviewer was confused about framing the requirements. I cleared all rounds, and HR said the feedback was positive. However, they later asked about my notice period and stopped answering calls after that.

Behavioral

The interviewer was condescending and didn't acknowledge my relevant experience in closing self-sourced net new business, which would have been a good fit for this AE role. They belittled my past successes and said the role would be too challenging for someone without prior net new business closing experience. I'm left with a bad impression from this interview process due to feeling ignored, belittled, and insulted. They offered unsolicited advice and repeatedly shut down my attempts to explain why I applied to ThoughSpot and how my background in self-sourcing and closing net new business is suitable for this position.
