Intern
I was invited to apply because I'm a Zappos Insider. I sent in my resume and immediately got a challenge task and a link for a video interview. The video interview gives you about a minute to prep and then starts recording. You can record twice, but I only did it once. They asked mostly 'fun'/behavioral questions, and then a few that were specific to the job. Because nobody reviews your application until after you do the challenge and interview, you won't know if they're even considering you based on your background until you finish those tasks. I got a rejection email about two weeks later.
- If you were stranded on an island, what three items would you choose to have with you?
Intern
The process starts early, with a deadline in the first week of September. After completing a challenge and an online interview, I was selected for onsite interviews in October. They covered flights, hotel, and food. Day one was mostly informational, with tours, group activities, and meeting managers, followed by a two-hour technical challenge similar to the online one. The evening was free for partying and exploring the strip. Day two included a two-on-one technical interview and a behavioral interview with a strong emphasis on culture.
- How would you apply statistical models to different situations, such as comparing logit vs probit or log normal vs normal distributions?
- Can you perform mental math for ROI, percentage increase, and other fundamental business calculations?
Intern
Applied with resume and an optional video cover letter. Went through an online assessment and an online challenge, which were both unique and engaging. Was notified about being a top candidate and then traveled to Vegas for the final interview stages. The onsite experience was fantastic, including meet-and-greets, challenges, one-on-one interviews, and social events with the team. Received an offer about a week after the visit and accepted it immediately.
- What kind of fun and innovative questions should I anticipate?
- What technical questions will be asked?
- How should I present myself to demonstrate passion?

“Given an integer N, find the smallest "zero-one" integer S that is a multiple of N. A "zero-one" integer is one whose base-ten representation only includes zeros and ones. We are guaranteed that such an S always exists for any N. Constraints: 0 < N < 100,000. For example, if N=4, the output should be 100.”
