First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The University of Kansas Health System.
Residency Administrator
Had a three step interview process: first a recruiter call online, then an HR/manager call online, and finally a director panel in person. It felt a bit much for a position that doesn't pay well, doesn't offer much room for advancement, and has limited flexibility.
- Can you share an instance where you took the lead during a crisis or a significant change?
HIM Supervisor
It was a really tough interview process. They had 3 rounds: a phone call, a video call, and then an in-person interview where I met with two different teams. I really liked the facility and the people I met, but I was pretty upset with how they handled the hiring. I felt ghosted because I only got an automated message saying I wasn't moving forward, and I found out through my job board. I think it's really unprofessional to put a candidate through three interviews and then not even bother to tell them directly they didn't get the job. I'm not mad about not getting picked, but I am annoyed that they didn't communicate after I spent so much of my time. A quick email or call would have been fine, but nobody seemed to have the guts to tell me I didn't make it.
- Can you describe your approach to supervision?
Business Intelligence Specialist
It was supposed to be a phone interview, but ended up being a video Teams call, which was a little unexpected. After that, they mentioned scheduling an in-person second interview for the next week because I seemed interested. I got the impression they really liked me, saying they wanted me to come in ASAP and would work around my schedule. I thought everything was set. I sent follow-up emails, including one about the salary range they had mentioned I could ask about, and tried to set up the second interview. I never heard back and then got rejected. Super weird experience, felt kind of disorganized.
- Could you tell me more about what this job entails?
- What are the responsibilities of your team?
- How would my knowledge of SQL and data visualization tools be relevant to this position?
Patient Service Representative
I applied on their website and heard back from a recruiter after about a week. The recruiter's communication could've been better, but we eventually scheduled a phone interview after a week of trying. The first phone interview was pretty basic, asking why I wanted to work with the hospital and about my past jobs. I got lucky and moved on to the second round, which was two weeks later. This second interview had a panel of two in-person interviewers and three on Zoom. I got an offer two weeks after that and accepted.
- How would you go about motivating your colleagues?
