First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The TJX Companies, Inc..
Financial Analyst Intern
I did a HireVue interview which was mainly behavioral questions, with one question possibly about real estate. Then there was a one-hour interview, split into two 30-minute sessions with two interviewers each. It wasn't too hard and was all behavioral.
- What motivated you to apply to TJX?
Financial Analyst
I interviewed for an FA position last year but didn't have FP&A experience. This time, after getting 6 months of FP&A experience, I was contacted again. I had 5 interviews with 5 different managers, all done at once without distinct rounds. I thought I did well, but after a week, they said they were moving on with other candidates. This is my second time interviewing with TJX, and both times I've reached the final stage only to be rejected. Despite having the exact experience they wanted, I'm unsure what they're looking for. It felt like a waste of time to go through 5 interviews just to be rejected. They should have rounds to avoid wasting candidates' time.
- Regarding store operations, what criteria would help us decide whether extending operating hours is a sensible decision?
Financial Analyst
The interview process started with a phone screen, which then led to an in-person interview at their headquarters in Framingham. I got a tour of the building, saw the cafeteria, and different parts of the company. It was interesting; I even saw the former CEO, Carol Meyrowitz, having lunch. The interviews themselves went okay. They asked about what goes into choosing a new store location and if I had experience creating P&Ls. Everyone was professional and nice, but they didn't seem very enthusiastic about the company or the role. I ended up interviewing with 5 people for an entire afternoon, but didn't get an offer. When I asked for feedback, the recruiter stopped responding. It seems like they prefer candidates who previously worked in Big 4 accounting firms or as financial analysts. They don't seem interested in helping people transition from other finance fields. It felt like they just wanted to meet their HR quota by having me interview. The process was fine overall, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking to change careers.
- How would you determine the best location for a new store?
- Have you created a P&L in prior jobs?
