I initially connected with the hiring postdoc via email after he posted about the opening in a class I was enrolled in back in October 2013. He then invited me to his lab. I didn't realize it was an interview at first, but I always dress nicely and come prepared. He asked about my experience and interests, and then discussed his research. I also asked him some questions about his work. I was hired shortly after, though he didn't explicitly say so. He just asked about my availability to come in so he could show me some things and instructed me to complete a formal online application. This was my first official job, and I had anticipated a different kind of process. Overall, I think it went well. Keep in mind that others might have a different experience.

The interview process was pretty straightforward. It involved two one-on-one interviews with the principal investigator of the lab, followed by a group interview with all the lab members. They reviewed my resume and relevant coursework, and we talked about potential projects I could work on and how I'd contribute.
