First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Scripps Research Institute.
Research Assistant
The first part of the interview process was a one-way interview using SparkHire. You get prompted with questions and then record yourself answering them. There were around 8 questions, with 30 seconds to think and 3 minutes to reply.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- Can you detail your research experience?
- What interests you about Scripps?
Coordinator
I applied online and got an email for a phone screen. After that, I had an in-person interview, which consisted of three 45-minute interviews. They then proceeded with checking my references, and after that, they made an offer. The whole process was really smooth and they were always clear about what was coming next. It was a nice change of pace given the current job market.
- Is there anything else you think we should have asked you?
Research Intern
You'll meet with the Principal Investigator (PI) and then some lab members. We'll chat about the projects, what you're passionate about, and how you might fit in with the lab's vibe. It's pretty low-key, mostly to check if you've got some experience under your belt.
- What motivates your interest in joining our company?
- Could you elaborate on your prior experiences?
- What specific projects or areas of research spark your interest?
Postdoctoral Research Associate
The interview process involved an initial chat with the PI. If there was a mutual interest, the next step was a meeting with a Staff Scientist or someone at an Assistant Professor level, where I could ask any questions. The final stage included a presentation of my PhD work, followed by discussions with lab members and collaborators. It felt like a pretty standard interview for a postdoctoral position.
- Could you introduce yourself and describe your research?
- What draws you to this particular lab?
- How do you see yourself contributing to our current research efforts?
