it was a pretty chill interview process. first off, i had a recruiter call, which was basically a phone screening and they asked me one question. then, i had a behavioral interview with the manager and an engineer on the DevOps team. they didn't do any coding challenges like Leetcode, but they did ask me some technical questions.

So I had this 4-round interview process for the role. It was a mix of business and tech stuff, checking if I knew my stuff and could handle real problems. The business part was all about my experience. I talked about my OCC internship where I used ServiceNow data for Tableau dashboards to track risk. The big issue was messy data, which slowed down reporting. So I teamed up with the data engineers, documented how things worked, and put in checks to clean up the data. This fixed the immediate issue and made the dashboard usable for more people. The tech rounds were on SQL, data modeling, and solving problems based on scenarios. My time at CCC Intelligent Solutions, where I looked at billing workflows and wrote SQL for reports, really helped me explain my thinking and make my queries better fast. What really mattered was not just knowing the tools, but showing how I think and deal with problems like missing info, fuzzy requirements, or crunching time. I made sure to be upfront and talk to people early to prevent issues. I think all this showed I could do the tech work and work with others, which helped me get the offer.

The interview experience was really good and professional. The first phone interview was friendly and organized, which made it easy to talk openly. We talked about my background, the skills I have, and how I could help with the job as a short-term contract. The interviewer also asked about my future career plans, which I liked because it seemed like they cared about my professional development. We went over what the project needs right now, what's expected, and how long the tasks might take. Everything was clear and easy to understand.

I've had two bad experiences with OCC. 1) Applied via a recruiter, had one interview, and then got ghosted for over 20 business days. They changed the job requirements mid-process and disqualified me without saying anything. 2) Applied directly via referral. They emailed about target pay, I asked clarifying questions and said I was flexible. Got an automated rejection. I asked if it was about pay and they said they'd call. I gave availability, no reply. They called the next day, ignoring my email, and said the pay was too low (less than they emailed). I pushed back saying I was flexible. They condescendingly explained salary ranges, said I have no finance or derivatives experience (which is untrue and derivatives weren't in the JD). They said they'd pass my resume on, but haven't heard back. Later, the same person replied to my email about setting up a time, even though we'd just spoken. I asked for updates, they said none. They clearly don't remember me or my resume, despite me listing financial clients. They also missed that I said my pay was flexible. Then they asked if I wanted the job, actively discouraging me. This is despite a big project coming up, and their behavior will cost them money.
