Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Open University.
Customer Advisor
The process involved a full day at an assessment centre. There was a telephone role play, a written task, an interview with a panel of senior staff, and a presentation task.
- How have you handled stressful customer interactions in the past?
- Can you describe a time you managed competing deadlines?
Student Recruitment Advisor
They asked a bunch of competency-based questions. The interview was really professional with a super welcoming vibe. There were two people on the panel who wrote things down and asked stuff about my qualifications.
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a challenging customer?
Student Advisor
It was a two stage interview, pretty standard questions, very straightforward and relaxed, polite and friendly. The first stage involved a practice phone call where I had to give advice to a pretend student, using university policy.
- Can you share a mistake you've learned from?
- How would you handle giving advice to a student using university policy?
