& Process

This was the worst interview experience in 30 years. The lead interviewer was sick, and it took 20 minutes past the start time to find 4 interviewers. They clearly weren't prepared. One interviewer was visibly upset about needing to leave early for his kids. The interview discussed my background and then moved into a lengthy discussion about designing systems. A coding exercise in Visual Studio was given about 50 minutes in. The font size and Intellisense colors were unreadable, making it difficult to code. It took about 10 minutes to complete the simple task because I had to search for functions due to the poor visibility. Since it ran slightly over time (partly due to the late start), I felt they might think I wasn't qualified, despite my experience building test frameworks and automating complex UI issues.

I sent my resume and cover letter via email for a job on the ATG website. About two hours later, I got an email saying they wanted to interview me for a different role, sales instead of customer service. The interview was set for 3 business days later. I met with a sales manager and someone from the department support team. It was a pretty straightforward interview, lasting about an hour with no tricky questions. They mostly had me go over my resume and talk about my sales strategy and some examples from my past work. Even though my work history wasn't a perfect match for what they asked for, they were interested in hearing how I thought I was qualified and how my experience could be valuable to them.

We started with some back-and-forth emailing to set up the in-person meeting. Once we met, it was pretty straightforward. We discussed my previous jobs, what the role involves, and the specific skills needed. The interviewers were team leaders and potential colleagues. They asked some unusual questions, including ones designed to see how I'd analyze and respond to a query. Overall, it was a good interview experience.

Got a quick response from the recruiter and communication was good. Phone screen was efficient. Scheduling was accommodating. The on-site was a series of 3 different interviewers, each lasting about 45 minutes. They mostly asked the same questions. Between interviewer 2 and 3, I was left alone in a conference room for about 15 minutes with no explanation. Never offered water or anything. When I was done, it was pretty much show yourself out.
