First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at the LEGO Group.
Lead Engineer
First, I had a call with an internal recruiter who was basically selling the company and explaining what the role entails. Then, I spoke with the head of engineering about why I wanted to join and got more details about the role. This part included behavioral-style questions. After that, there was a tech test, which involved cloning the monorepo structure that the company uses and building a basic Next.js website with a GraphQL server. It also included Cypress integration tests. It was called 'Baby Octan'. Unfortunately, I didn't get past this stage. I did try to follow up for feedback a few times, but I never heard back, which was pretty disappointing considering the test took a significant amount of time.
- Can you explain the node event loop?
- Tell me about the most technically challenging thing you have accomplished.
- What is event driven programming?
Senior Engineer
First, I had a chat with HR about the job and what it involves. Then, there was a technical discussion and a case study. After that, I talked about the offer with the senior manager and director (Engineering). Finally, I got my offer for Senior Data Warehouse Engineer.
- Can you detail your experience in data warehousing and your background with data platform tools like Data Services, Databricks, and HANA Modeling?
- What is your experience with cloud providers such as AWS and Azure?
- Describe your experience in developing Lake house architecture.
Engineer
The whole interview process took place in four steps. First, there was a 30-minute remote chat with a Senior Consultant from Talent Operations. We talked about the role and asked each other questions. It was like an introduction, and I was asked about my background, studies, job, and motivation for joining. It was informative and friendly. The second step was a 1-hour remote meeting with a Manager and an Equipment Engineer. It was similar to the first interview but more in-depth, with plenty of time for questions. They were mainly interested in my current job and how I would handle different scenarios, as well as my workplace preferences. The vibe was still very positive. Next, I had a face-to-face meeting at the Kladno site with the Senior Consultant from the first interview and the Equipment Engineer from the second. The Team Manager joined remotely from Denmark. We summarized previous discussions and addressed further questions. Afterwards, the Equipment Engineer and I toured the factory, focusing on job-relevant areas, and there was ample opportunity for questions. The final step was an unplanned remote meeting with two new team members to aid the hiring decision. We had a relaxed 30-minute chat about their roles, my potential role, and the work environment. I also want to mention the great communication with the Recruitment Advisor via email; they were responsive and clear. The Senior Consultant also called a couple of times to answer my questions. I was really happy with the support. Initially, I was interested in the LEGO Group, but the interview process made me even more eager to join. I've never had such a positive interview experience.
- Can you share your most recent challenge?
- What has been your latest success?
- How would you handle a situation involving a rude colleague?
