First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Knot Worldwide.
Product Manager
I first got a message from a recruiter on LinkedIn. Then I had a 30-minute phone screen with HR, followed by a 30-minute interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager interview was really bad; he seemed uninterested from the start, started eating a snack after a few minutes, and was clearly trying to trip me up. When he asked a question condescendingly near the end, I ended the interview because it was obvious we weren't a good fit. The Knot then emailed me the next day saying they were moving on with other candidates.
- Can you tell me about a time a product you worked on didn't succeed?
- Please share an instance where you resolved an issue through a product.
- If you were to give a product talk, what product would you choose and what would be the main points?
Product Manager
Recruitment practice is very unprofessional. Got ghosted after the 1st interview. They are hiring for the same position in a different area office to find the lowest salary taker. Same position posted in two different offices with the exact same job description. Of course, wages and living expenses are much lower in TX vs DC. The merge between WeddingWire and XO Group still reflects conflicts of interests in terms of back-office operations as of Fall 2020. Received a Reject letter the same day as Application Submission. The recruiter didn't even pretend to review the application.
- Tell me about yourself. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Are you comfortable with non-technical questions?
Product Manager
So, I had 6 interviews in total. The first was with TA, then a Product Line Manager, then the Head of Product from another area, followed by a Lead PM, and lastly, the Engineering team lead. Each interview was about 45 minutes. They focused on different skills like leadership, execution, and strategy. A cool thing was that they usually left about 10-15 minutes for me to ask questions about the role, which is pretty rare.
- Tell me about a time you had to deal with difficult stakeholders.
- Imagine you're the CEO of a company; what would you do about X? (mini case study)
