Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Assistant Manager
I went through two rounds of interviews for this position, which I think are MBA interviews. After that, I didn't hear back from them, even after I emailed to inquire about my application status. Later, they changed the job description and posted it again. It's strange for a role that seems to always be hiring, and it's not very professional to ignore candidate inquiries.
- What makes you a good fit for this role?
Assistant Manager
The interview had a written test and then an in-person interview on the same day. After the test, candidates, of which there were 8, waited to see the interview panel.
- What motivates your interest in this position?
- Could you describe your key strengths?
- What do you consider your main weaknesses?
Assistant Manager
It was an old school interview with four interviewers. It was a poor experience. They kept asking an experienced candidate for private/personal questions, like about a gap year before university or the source of finance for education. I didn't get why they kept asking these. There was also a written test after the interview, but I didn't take the questions seriously because I heard the interviewers laughing at the responses from candidates they interviewed that day. In short, it was a very poor experience, and I wouldn't accept an offer even if I got one. The questions were offensive and irrelevant.
- Can you tell us about personal choices you made a decade ago?
