Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Intern
I had a Zoom meeting with some colleagues and the head of the department. They wanted to know my basic IT/coding language skills for the position and asked about the department's background and function, which I could have found on their website.
- Are you familiar with the basic IT/coding languages needed for this role?
- Can you describe the background and function of our department?
Intern
It was a pretty straightforward and good interview process. It was interactive and consisted of behavioral questions, which I found to be a decent experience. The pay was understandable for an internship. Overall, I had a very positive and open-minded experience. The job requirements were clear, and I understood my responsibilities.
- How would you react if your teammates criticized your work?
Student Assistant
It was a good interview experience. I had two interviews, one on Zoom and one in person. Two interviewers were present. I received offers from both. The work isn't stressful for a student helper, which is good to try. However, the weekly work hours during the normal semester are only 10, which isn't that high. You can just work when you have free time.
- Can you tell me about your understanding of the work and any related experiences you have?
