It's pretty straightforward. You'll probably get about 4 to 6 questions, starting with asking you about your background. Make sure you can talk really well about how your experience fits the job. They really want to hear your answers using the STAR method.
- Could you start by telling me about your background?
- Walk me through your professional history.
- Tell me about yourself and your experience.
Department Lead
This was a single round interview for internal candidates. It was based on STAR method questions, focusing on experience, and used a 5-level rating system. The scoring was tough, and they expected detailed answers. They were checking for leadership, conflict resolution, critical thinking, customer service, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Can you tell me about a time you helped your team hit their targets?
Software Engineer
The Returnship interview process had three parts. First, there was an initial recruiter phone screen that lasted about thirty minutes. It included 20 minutes of soft skill questions, 5 minutes for explaining the next steps, and 5 minutes for questions. The second interview took over a month to schedule and lasted about an hour and a half with three interviewers. This part involved a thirty-minute session with one interviewer focusing on behavioral questions, followed by a technical interview with the other two interviewers.
- I was asked to create a server using any programming language and tools of my choice within a codepen-like environment.
- Given a mock endpoint with JSON data, I needed to retrieve it and then send it to the end user.

First, you'll apply and we'll look over your resume and cover letter. We'll check if you're a good fit. Then, there's an initial chat, probably on the phone or video, with someone from recruiting or HR. They'll check if you generally fit and can communicate well. They might also ask you to do a skills test or something like a case study. After that, you'll likely talk with the hiring manager or the team you'd be working with. This is where we dive deeper into your experience and how you solve problems. Sometimes, there's a final chat with bigger bosses or people from other departments to see how you think strategically and if you're a good culture fit. Maybe you'll even have to do a presentation. Then we'll check your references. If everything goes well, we'll make you an offer and you can negotiate. Lastly, after you accept, we'll get you started with onboarding, which is all the paperwork and training.
- Can you tell us about yourself and why you're interested in this job? What have you found out about our company?
- What are your biggest strengths and weaknesses?
- What is your 5-year plan?
