First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Hershey Company.
Production Executive
Typical series of calls that led to in-person interview - spoke to a HR person and then passed up the ladder to the hiring team. Great conversation and amazing opportunity - unfortunately the in-person job interview happened on the cusp of the COVID lockdown.
- How does my current experience align with the requirements outlined in the job description?
Production Supervisor
A phone interview was scheduled for the following Friday, just a few days after submitting my resume. The phone interview consisted of four Business Unit Managers, one of whom I would report to, and an HR person. The interview lasted about 30 minutes, with most questions being in the STAR format. A little over a week after the phone interview, on a Monday, I received a call to schedule an interview in Hershey for the following Wednesday. Although the notice was short given the six-hour drive, I accepted. The plan was for two one-hour interviews with two managers each. After the second interview, I was offered a tour of the plant, which I accepted. The unscheduled tour lasted 30-45 minutes. Upon returning, the HR Manager, who was present, asked me to wait for an unscheduled third meeting with her and the Plant Manager. I felt confident I would get the job and receive an offer after this meeting. I believe the tour serves two purposes: first, to gauge interest in the job, and second, to allow management to discuss and decide if a final interview is needed.
- Were there any difficult or unexpected questions, given your research into common interview questions? The STAR format can be challenging if you're not a good storyteller or quick under pressure.
Production Operator
I applied online and after a few weeks, I had a phone interview. Then they scheduled me for an in person interview. After that, they contacted me about setting up a drug screen, and they were nice enough to set it up close to where I lived at the time, which was 150 miles away. Then came the background check and job offer a few weeks later.
- Were there questions unrelated to the job?
