Assistant Store Manager
I applied for the job and a recruiter called me back the next day. We went over my past work, pay, and the role. They asked me some "tell me about a time" questions. I know how that works: you explain what happened, how you handled it, and what the result was. After that, I had an interview with the District Manager the following week, and then one with the Regional Director. The District Manager interview was similar, with more behavioral questions, and it lasted about an hour and a half. The Regional Director interview was shorter, around 45 minutes, and he basically said that if the District Manager wanted to hire me, that would be it.
- Can you describe a situation you encountered?
- Could you share an instance where you resolved a problem?
- Tell me about a time you found a solution and what the outcome was.
Store Manager
So I started with a phone interview with HR in Greensboro, it wasn't too hard, pretty standard retail management stuff. Then the district manager was supposed to call me, and he did. We talked, and the next week I met with him. It was the same kind of interview, and then he said I'd meet with the RVP. So, the following week I met the RVP. Again, same interview, not super deep, just general retail knowledge and a few behavioral questions. I thought it went well and they said they'd let me know the next week. Well, four weeks went by and no one called, so I called HR. Turns out, they'd already offered the job to someone else. They didn't even bother to let me know. I always liked shopping there, but that whole process was really unprofessional. Honestly, glad they picked someone else.
- Can you describe a time you disagreed with your boss and how you handled it?
Store Manager
The whole thing from applying to getting the job offer took about a month. There were three interviews total. The first was a phone call with the recruiter, the district manager, and the regional director, which was basically a screening to see if I was a fit. The second and third interviews were longer, about two hours each, and focused more on behavioral and situational questions, like typical management interview questions. A big thing for this company is willingness to relocate because they're expanding and need managers who can move. Make sure to give detailed answers and don't be afraid to talk about your past successes, but don't overdo it. Also, be ready to ask them questions too. They seemed to appreciate that I already shopped there and knew some of their products. I specifically mentioned loving the bakery and a unique root beer they carry. I wore a suit and tie, and the interviewers were in business casual.
- Can you tell me about a time you failed at something and what you would do differently now?
