& Process

The interview was pretty chill, even for someone like me who's not super outgoing. The job, though, didn't really match the title or what I'm good at. Seems like they'll interview anyone. The HR person was cool and easy to talk to, but he was super vague about what the job actually entails, citing contract restrictions. He did mention it involves 'customer service' and 'direct marketing'. He then went on to talk about all the cool stuff: evening hangouts often, that the office wasn't their main one, that they have offices everywhere, opportunities for travel, easy promotions if you work hard, a great CEO, and amazing company culture. I was interested, so I said I'd do a second round if I passed the first. Turns out I did, and I was one of the top candidates out of about 10. I turned down the second interview though because of too many red flags.

I applied online and was contacted by HR the same day via email and phone. The next day, I had my first interview at their office, which was a bit tricky to find located in a church parking lot. The waiting area had a desk and a TV playing ESPN. After about a 5-minute wait, I was taken to my interviewer's office, which was decorated with hip-hop records. The first interview was short, with the interviewer asking a few questions and then explaining what they do. I was invited back for a second interview, which was more detailed. For the second interview, we went out for coffee and discussed the company, a direct marketing firm working with major clients like AT&T and offering a management training program. They said they'd call by the end of the day with a decision, which they did, but I turned down the offer.

I applied online through an ad and sent in my resume. The company called me and asked a few things about what I was looking for and if the job could be a good fit. I went into the office and a nice person at the front desk gave me an application to fill out. There were a few other people ahead of me and in the lobby. The place was clean and I liked the music they were playing. Soon after, one of the hiring managers met me, took me to his office, and asked me some questions. He then told me more about the company, the job, and potential for growth. He saved time at the end for me to ask questions he hadn't covered during his company overview. He answered my questions, and I was told if I was selected, I'd get a call back later if they wanted to continue the process.

The building and location were unimpressive. The office wasn't very professional with loud music playing from a neighboring business. Before the interview, you fill out a quick synopsis paper, which basically gives the interviewer an overview instead of them considering your resume or doing their homework. They claim to be a CRM/marketing company but actually do door-to-door sales for TV and internet services. This job is easy to get but doesn't pay much for the required effort. I didn't proceed because I realized it wasn't a good fit.
