First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.
Cafe Crew Member
The interview was about 30 minutes and felt really relaxed, pretty much like chatting with a friend. The interviewer was great at making me feel comfortable. She asked me if I understood the duties of a cafe crew member and if I was fine with those responsibilities.
- What made you choose to apply here over other coffee shops?
Barista
I interviewed for a Barista position after being let go from my previous job at a nearby cafe where I had worked full-time. I had 3 years of barista experience. The interview with the manager went well, and I enjoyed our conversation. I inquired about the timeline for a decision, and was told I'd hear back by the end of the day. Unfortunately, it's been over a week, and I haven't received any communication from them, essentially being ghosted.
- Why did you apply to our cafe?
- What relevant experience do you have?
Digital Marketing Manager
So, there were like 3 to 4 phases to the interview process. First, there was a screening call over the phone. Then, I had a remote interview with the hiring manager. After that, I went in for an in-person interview where I met with the hiring manager again, plus some of my potential teammates who are at a similar level or a bit more senior. The final step was another on-site interview, this time with the VP.
- Have you previously managed email marketing campaigns?
Creative Designer
The interview started with a recruiter/HR chat, which was mostly standard get-to-know-you stuff. Then I spoke with the Hiring Manager, who was great. After that, I got a creative brief to work on, which I then had to present in person at their main office. What really frustrated me was after they said they'd let me know about next steps post-presentation, I ended up chasing them for over a month. Each time it was some excuse like the team was on holiday or needed more time. Eventually, they just ghosted my last email. I get that they don't owe me anything, but I expected better professionalism from a company like The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, especially after meeting me. A quick email saying I wasn't moving forward would have been enough, but instead, I was left hanging, wasting time I could have spent on other opportunities, which is a real shame since I was excited about potentially working there.
- What are your thoughts on your presentation and how did you find the overall process?
