Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at The Cincinnati Insurance Company.
IT Intern
The hiring process was pretty quick. It started with a phone screen, followed by a behavioral interview with the Hiring Manager that lasted about an hour. It was basically a review of my past experiences and how I'd fit with the company. Overall, a very straightforward experience.
- Can you list the four principles of OOP?
Intern
Applied Online. Then had a phone interview where I almost stumbled over technical skill questions. Later, the company visited my university, so I talked to the people working there and they seemed nice and laid-back. Then I had a Skype interview with 3 people within the Actuarial Department. Initially, the phone interview changed from one person who emailed me to another person who interviewed me, and had a hostile attitude towards me from the beginning. She was jealous of me. Apparently, this person was also the first interviewer in my Skype interview, and did not mind to reveal to me that she got the job at Cincinnati because she knew somebody there. I was surprised in the end when I asked about the next steps and timing (early October), the HR said she would get back to me by Thanksgiving, which is late November (Stretching 2 months to get a response meaning: you did not get the job), after I told her the quickest response I will get is within 1 to 2 weeks.
- Be sure to prepare yourself of basics if language you list on your resume and some background in statistics.
- Did not expect that.
IT Intern
After applying for the IT internship, I was asked to send my academic transcript. About a week later, they emailed to set up an interview. The interview involved meeting with HR and taking a Wonderlic test, which is similar to an IQ test. Then, I spoke with an HR rep for general questions, and afterwards, I met with a resource manager from the IT team. The whole thing took about an hour. There weren't any really technical questions. HR asked behavioral questions, and the IT manager asked about my coding language skills, classes I took, and projects I did. I got a call the next day with an offer. I asked for more time because I had other interviews. A drug test and background check are needed after you get an offer.
- Tell me about the projects you have been involved with.
- Describe a situation where you faced a challenging problem during a project and explain how you resolved it.
- Why do you believe you are a more suitable candidate than others?
