Administrative Assistant
The HR person I talked to was very upfront about what's good and bad about the company. They also laid out the benefits clearly from the beginning.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
Administrative Assistant
I found this job through a staffing agency. First, there was a 25-minute phone call with a recruiter where they asked mostly behavioral questions and about my current job. A couple weeks later, I spoke with the hiring manager for 40 minutes. They focused on my experience and skills that could transfer to this role. It was a nice chat. After a few more weeks, partly because it was summer and people were on vacation, I had 8 interviews in a row, each lasting 30 minutes. These were with the whole department and two admin people from other departments. Everyone had different behavioral questions, but the interviews felt more like conversations than quick questions. It seemed like everyone really liked their jobs and was very skilled. Even though I thought I did well and was a good fit, I didn't get the offer because I didn't have enough experience in one specific skill. I had been upfront about my experience with it being less extensive than what they needed, even though it was only a small part of my daily tasks according to my previous managers. In my opinion, I didn't do a great job of showing how I could be valuable in the role and to the team. It was a disappointing result. But, if you're looking for a good place to work with opportunities to advance, you should apply. It seems to be as good as people say, even though I didn't get the job.
- Can you share an instance where you managed multiple tasks simultaneously?
Administrative Assistant
It was a horrible experience... To get further in the application, I had to fill out a questionnaire with 10 questions and give 3 references, and they didn't give me a deadline. One of my references complained because they kept sending them repetitive reminder emails, which was totally not okay and they did it without asking me. The recruiter was also super unprofessional, emailing me back late at night between 8PM and 10PM. At 10PM she replied about my reference's complaint and said they'd review my application, then I got rejected at 8:30AM the next day. I really don't think they even looked at my questionnaire or the skill surveys from my references since it was supposed to be seen by admin teams all over the institute. I'm definitely not applying there again because the process was so inefficient. They wasted my time and my references' time, and the recruiter was just unprofessional.
- Can you describe how you organize yourself or the person you assist? What specific systems or processes do you implement? Please elaborate.
